Back to the Snow in Maryland

The last Sea Day and Disembarking

View Summer, 9-11-2001 - and then the 2nd time down the ICW & 2011 Back to Back Enchantment of the Seas and Lighthousing Driving South & Bermuda on greatgrandmaR's travel map.

Friday 28 January 2011 - Third Sea Day

We went to Progressive Trivia this morning and won. There were 20 questions but some of them were multiples (the 6 weapons in Clue - we forgot the lead pipe and the wrench- the 6 kids in the Brady Bunch - we got all of them, and the 6 people who were in the 3 Stooges - we forgot that there were 2 Joes and only wrote Joe once). According to my count we got 23 right, but the people who graded our paper gave us 28.

We got more luggage tags, a lot of key chains, and some nice cloth bags into which we put all the stuff we bought. Then Bob went back to the room and I stayed over and did Tribond Trivia - I was in one of the four groups that got a perfect score but we didn't get anything. I think the guy running it should have had a tie breaker question but he has consistently NOT been prepared for ties.

We are now mostly packed for tomorrow and Bob has stuffed the envelopes and we have turned in our comment sheets. I said the room was the worst on any cruise ship I've been on, but actually Grandeur of the Seas was the same. I said that the rooms were not too small but were badly designed.

I said if they wanted me to use IE for the internet instead of Firefox, that they should FIX IT so that the minutes are charged correctly. I said the food was too salty especially the soups, and that borscht should have BEETS in it. And that the portions were too big. (which will be a surprise to them probably)

I praised the staff, and named the waiter and assistant waiter and room steward (I didn't say so but I think he has too much work to do - haven't seen the assistant room steward at all on either cruise).

I did say that whoever screwed up the Weds program should be reprimanded. It went way beyond a simple typo. It had two different day/dates - one page said Thursday and one said Weds. They had the wrong day to register for the shopping drawing (it was Thursday and they said it was Weds), and they said the T-shirts were the wrong price (they said 2 for $20 and it was 2 for $30 and the 2 for $20 was on Thursday and they announced the wrong price continuously over the loudspeaker on Wednesday). Bob said that the cruise director and his wife the activities manager wasn't so bad and I shouldn't say anything about them but I think they are responsible for the program and I don't have warm feelings for them. I didn't actually name them or say that they were incompetent. Although I thought they were.

We are supposed to go to the Champagne bar for wheelchair assistance when we dis-embark, but that bar has a step up in both directions, so a wheelchair can't get into it. Just like on the last cruise where they told us we had to get off on deck 2 and we were supposed to get off on deck 1. I used all the computer packages down to the last two minutes. Our bill when it came was correct.

Saturday 29 January 2011 - Disembarkation and returning Home

We set our clocks forward today but the ship's clock didn't get changed and was wrong.

We went up to breakfast, and I had a banana - they are back to leaving the sliced banana on one half of the peel.

We went back to the room and hung out for a little bit and then we got into the wheelchair and went up to the Champagne Bar. This is a very very small bar off the Centrum. People who needed wheelchairs were "hanging from the ceiling" waiting for their numbers to be called. (All the tags are green so the color is irrelevant.)

Our time was to be from 9:15 to 9:30 and we were eventually called about 9:50. Bob took the computer bag and his carryon and I took the bag of stuff we bought and my cane into my lap and we went down to deck one and through a tunnel on the dock to customs.

Everyone else was standing in line to exit from deck 2. On deck one, we just had the coffee urns in front of us. The wheelchair guy pushed me around all the people waiting in line for customs to the front and they looked at our passports and Bob turned in the customs form.

Then we went to get the luggage. The wheelchair guy (who was from India) said he would wait with me while Bob got the bags, I watched the drug dog while I waited. After Bob collected the three bags, he was going to take them to the porter line, but the wheelchair guy got a porter so he had to bring them back. Then we went out to get a taxi.

The flat rate from the terminal to the airport is $30.00. Bob persuaded the guy to go in the "official vehicles only" driveway (where the buses go) and we got unloaded. The driver said the fare was $35.00 and Bob gave him $45.00.

I took his bag, the computer bag and the bag of stuff we bought and Bob had my big bag, his hanging bag, and his carry on bag. I stopped at the chairs and sat down but Bob had to go to the bathroom and it took him twice around the terminal before he saw the bathroom sign that was about 3 feet tall. He went to the desk.

I made the reservation some considerable time ago, and pre-paid the $30.00 rental. They couldn't find it in the system and put a hold on our credit card of $140.00 plus the $30 that the rental was to cost. It took them a long time.

Finally she said we had a light blue Nissan. We started to load up and walked part way to the door when the rental car lady came running up and said "let me help you and took all the stuff I had from me and called the garage man to bring the car to the door instead of us having to walk around and find it. So Bob gave him $2.00.

I programmed the car GPS (Magellan) although I had to override the freeze that happened when the car started to move so that the passenger (me) could program it.

We stopped at Wendy's for lunch.

We got home

and got the water and all the electronics turned on. Our poinsettia from last year has a new flower. The paper was there but the mail had not arrived. Then it was time to turn the rental car in.

I looked in my cars' center console where I thought I had left my wallet and it was not there. Bob got gas and the car took less than 2 gallons for 88 miles. It got 54 miles to the gallon. When we got back home, the mail had come, and the fruit had been sent by mail so that was in there. My maps that I ordered for our next trip had also come.

I looked some more for my wallet, but could not find it. I was positive it was someplace in the house. Eventually Bob found it when he went into a bedroom. He had asked me to reprogram the computer picture frame and I had gone in there to copy our luggage tags and saw the computer picture frame box which I had put in there. When I picked it up, I had to put down the wallet as I needed two hands for the box. (And I also left the luggage tags in the copier)

Chicken and noodles

We went to Bob Evans for dinner.I had a cup of soup and a sandwich and Bob had chicken noodle and mashed potatoes with a biscuit. The waitress brought us rolls but we had no knives, and then when she did the bill, she put a coke and coffee on there when we only drank water.
