Viewing Coco Cay from the Ship

Back to Baltimore

overcast
View Summer, 9-11-2001 - and then the 2nd time down the ICW & 2011 Back to Back Enchantment of the Seas and Lighthousing Driving South & Bermuda on greatgrandmaR's travel map.

The Berry Islands are a stirrup-shaped chain of cays and islets that lie on the northeastern edge of the Great Bahama Bank between latitudes 25o50'N and 25o22'N. They are bounded on the north and east by the Northwest Providence Channel and on the south by the Tongue of the Ocean. There are roughly 30 large cays and numerous small ones

The Berry Islands have two of the Private Islands that the cruise ships visit. Great Stirrup Cay is the NCL private island location and Coco Cay (which is between Great Stirrup and Coco Cay Island) is the Royal Caribbean private island. They are both tender ports which means that you need to go from the big cruise ship to the island by small boat.

Friday 14 January 2011- Coco Cay

The ship was going really really slowly last night because we had only 68 miles to go.

Breakfast was all chocolate - hot cocoa,
Chocolate morning waffles with bananas and chocolate sauce

(which I got), chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate pastries - everything chocolate. This is a Royal Caribbean thing - they have one Chocolate Morning each cruise. Bob got his usual two figs and oatmeal and had two of my pieces of bacon.

I had thought I might go in on the tender just to see what was there, but it was cold and quite windy and Bob didn't want to go. I went out on deck and took some pictures and decided I didn't want to go either.

I took a photo through the window (it looks a little streaky) of a crew member painting the overhead with a long roller/brush.

He was wearing a hat and looked a bit like the Gloucester fisherman.

When I looked at the photos I saw a lighthouse.

There were also some little square markers on the ends of what looked like a sand bar between them .

We went to lunch in the dining room - the buffet wasn't going to be open because they were having a bbq on the beach.

I tried to catch up with the photos I took in the cemetery in Key West and uploaded a spreadsheet of them. I still have to upload the photos. Bob decided that we would have more room if we had twin beds rather than a king. So now we are like all those couples on 50's TV. And it really does make it much more roomy.

Dinner was lobster tonight although it wasn't formal.

January 15th and 16th - Sea Days

Two sea days. Not much to report except that they keep billing me wrong for the internet.

I have figured out what is wrong with the internet billing. I sign up for a package x minutes for x/cents per minute. The money is charged to my account. The computer system SHOULD deduct minutes from my package. It does that. When I sign on, it tells me how much money I have left on the package and that I will be billed at x/cents/minute. But then it bills me for each minute at the highest rate and ADDS that amount to my bill instead of just subtracting the minutes from the package amount. The next time I sign on, I have less minutes in the package but it still adds the maximum charge for each minute to our bill.

We ate breakfast,

lunch and dinner and I posted photographs.

For lunch on the 15th, I had the corn cakes and

which promptly leaked red fat on my clean shirt. Bob had the pulled pork also. For dessert he had the

(really a piece of pie), and I had the

One of the ladies at the table ordered the same and instead of blueberry got strawberry.

I thought maybe I could get Bob to swim, but he said no.

We watched the game before we had to go to dinner. Everyone started taking photos at dinner.

Sam (from PA) didn't come because he was watching the Steelers game. I had the

Bob had the

He was unhappy because the vegetables were to be mashed rutabaga and brussel sprouts, but in the end he had string beans (they said their brussel sprouts plants didn't produce enough), carrots and corn and what he said tasted like just mashed potatoes. Almost everyone at the table had

for dessert. Our towel animal was a skate.

On the 16th - our last sea day - we had the final Progressive Trivia and got ALL the questions right, but I think we still ended up fourth.

I don't think there was any way we could have gotten better than third anyway (the first and second place teams had 7 points more than we did after 3 rounds and there were only 15 points in the last round) and the prize for that was luggage tags, which we already have.

I took some photos of me in a wheelchair with Bob pushing in the elevator which is mirrors all around.

We had to go to the meeting for those doing back-to-back and they told us to wait until everyone else was off the ship and then go to the Bolero Lounge where we would be given our new SeaPass cards, and would get off the ship and go thru customs and immigration and then get back on again. Then we could go to our rooms. We are getting a new cruise director which doesn't look like it will be a good thing.

I am able to keep the wheelchair which I have decided to use wherever there is a lot of standing around and waiting in line to be done, but where I can just walk, I will do that. Getting off and getting back on is one of those waiting in line things. They insisted on being the one to push the wheelchair.

At dinner, Bob was somewhat distressed to find that the salmon was gone from the menu. He had minestrone as a starter and instead of salmon had the

I had the

(which is really not a salad but slices of tomatoes and mozzarella), and

Karate towel animal, lol.

by hennaonthetrek

Yes I have never seen that particular towel animal again.

I posted this out of order - I just finished the Nassau one which comes before this one. I didn't think anyone would notice -

by greatgrandmaR

To be honest, I didn't notice either..I am "bit" behind on your blog, so I just picked something I haven't read...

by hennaonthetrek

I try to keep up with Sarah's blogs too but that is hard to do.

by greatgrandmaR

Yep, when you have days between visiting the site you notice several, if not dozens new entries and got overwhelmed..

by hennaonthetrek

It would be easier to keep up if we got an email when someone we are following made a new entry. But TP is set up for one continuous blog and I'm not doing it that way
